Leaked Documents Reveal Myanmar-Bangladesh Covert Operations Against Rohingya Insurgents

In a startling revelation, a leaked 45-page document from Myanmar's Central Committee for Counter-Terrorism exposes a covert collaboration between the Myanmar military and Bangladesh forces to target the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA). This alliance has led to violent assaults on Rohingya refugees residing in the contested "No Man's Land" at the Tombru border.

In November 2022, Bangladesh's Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted a raid on this area, resulting in casualties, including a young Rohingya mother and a DGFI officer. The official narrative labelled it an anti-narcotics operation, but the leaked memo suggests it was a coordinated effort with Myanmar to neutralise ARSA.

The situation escalated in January 2023 when the Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO), historically dormant, attacked the same refugee settlement. Witnesses reported that RSO expelled thousands of Rohingya, destroyed homes, and committed killings, all while border guards from both nations stood by. Notably, Dil Mohammed, the community spokesperson for No Man's Land, was abducted during this assault (and later surfaced in a Bangladeshi jail in May 2023), raising serious concerns about the complicity of both governments in actions that have further destabilised the already vulnerable Rohingya population.
